KlankKleurFestival 2011: Metamorphosis

Between the performances food and drink is available on the festival grounds, the exposition is open for viewing, and there are various mini-performances outdoors.

 

The festival takes place in the Uilenburgersjoel, Nieuwe Uilenburgerstraat 91, Amsterdam.

Opening Exposition: The Graphic Scores Project
An exhibition with visual compositions created by Amsterdam-based artists and artist-in-residence Anton Lukoszevieze (UK). With musical intermezzi including Ovidius Rap by Dick van der Harst; and Thom Geraedts’s performance, STIL.

Diabelli Variations - Bernd Brackman
Ludwig van Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations for piano, which the composer described as Veränderungen (transformations, metamorphoses)

Pelicans - Trio Scordatura

In this concert Trio Scordatura presents 3 musical metamorphoses. In her work The Lot of Love composer Aspasia Nasopoulou transforms the poetry of W.B. Yeats into song. Anne La Berge converts the memories and stories of the musicians into a meditation on the unusual subject of bodily deformations. Kate Moore's new work Pelicans is inspired by a flock of ascending pelicans, their movements reflected in the music.

Soloists Wiebe Pier Cnossen, Elsbeth Gerritsen; children’s choir from primary school De Witte Olifant; young soloists directed by Jan Maarten Koeman; the KlankKleur Orchestra conducted by Bas Wiegers. A new production directed by Ellenoor Bakker of this deeply moving masterpiece involving professionals and amateurs alike. Costumes by Kevin Power. The public is invited to help tell the story by singing three hymns (in English) so the performance begins with a short coaching session!

A concert of chamber music by musicians taking part in the festival. Performances by Aisling Casey, oboe (Britten - Six Metamorphoses after Ovid), Marianne Selleger, voice (Britten - Cabaret Songs), Daria van den Bercken, piano, Zoran Marcovic, double bass. Cellist Anton Lukoszevieze plays his own music.
During the concert there is an Open Art Studio – bring your sketchbook or easel and draw and/or paint the musicians as they perform!
